Today, HTC has announced a new smartphone that is basically a low-cost alternative to one of the best phones of 2014 – the HTC One (M8). This new phone is the One M8s, and even with a quick glance you will notice that it looks very similar to HTC’s previous flagship smartphones, the One (M8).
The first major difference is obviously the SoC. While the One M8 used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 with four Krait cores at 2.26GHz (or 2.5GHz in some markets), the M8s opts for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 which has two sets of four Cortex A53 cores at 1.7GHz and 1.0GHz respectively. It is worth noting that the new SoC used in the M8s is of 64-bit architecture.
The updated design keeps the dual-camera, but moves up to a 13MP sensor with 28mm lens and f/2.0 aperture. The video recording should be capped at 1080p@30fps. The front-facing camera is a 5MP shooter with 1080p video capture.
The dimensions of the device are almost similar to M8 except it is a little thicker which results into a slightly bigger battery at 2840mAh. It will run on android lollipop out of the box.
The M8s will cost you about £380 in the UK and it will also be available in other European Markets at a later date. At the moment, it’s unclear whether HTC will halt the production of M8 or not.
