If you own a ChromeBook or laptop that runs on Chrome OS you certainly facing some issues while playing some videos because some of video format are not
supported by default video player. Few months ago Chrome team announced that there are possibilities to run some of Android applications on Chrome using the new Android runtime for Chrome. Since then VLC wanted to support this runtime. 
Before today VLC was available on almost all platforms except Chrome but from today VLC is pleased to announce that their media player is now available for Chrome OS too and you can download it from today.
What Are The Features
  1. All video files supported in VLC, including MKV and DVD ISOs,
  2. All audio files supported in VLC, including FLAC and other weird audio formats,
  3. Subtitles files, from SRT to SSA and with auto-detection, when possible,
  4. media database like on Android and iOS to select the right medias, and resume playback,
  5. Playback of streams, local and on the internet, include adaptive streaming like HLS or DASH,
  6. We also support playlists, accelerated playback, audio equalizer, audio/video synchronization and hardware accelerated video/audio decoding.

Currently VLC is tested only on two ChromeBooks, ChromeBook Pixel and HP ChromeBook 14. If you own a ChromeBook do test it on your device. Don’t forget to report any bugs you find and tell us how VLC is rocking on your ChromeBook.
